Hunker Down? For Expose Yourself

Coming up from Vancouver? Coming all the way from Lund?! We are all about hunkering down in style for the weekend which is why we have teamed up with the most comfy and interesting accommodations in town.

The Old Courthouse Inn and the Rodmay Heritage Hotel want to make this the most comfy, quirky vacation/stay-cation possible so they’re putting it all on the table, making it a sure thing, with 10% discounts at the Old Courthouse and rooms starting at $50 (!!!) at the Rodmay Heritage Hotel!

And for god’s sake, book while the booking’s good! With the plethora of artists and performers on the roster, we’re sure to sell out. In case we’re not being clear enough… now is not the time to hem and haw. Head on down to the Old Courthouse Inn (10% OFF Rooms!) or the Rodmay Heritage Hotel (Rooms starting at $50!)

We have been working hard behind the scenes and keeping it under wraps but I am very excited to announce that I have joined Caitlin Anne Bryant and the team that well bring you Expose Yourself 2017. If you haven’t heard of EY yet, it’s a boundary-pushing, body-celebrating, hilarity-making, multi-disciplinary art exhibition based in Powell River BC. Stay tuned as we relaunch the exhibition for exhibitionist. Submission call is right around the corner…

September is the 9th month of the year and from an esoteric numerology point of view, the number 9 relates to endings and new beginnings. I find this really interesting as September  is this in many ways for so many humans and animals. From the end of summer vacation to the start of school for students of all ages, to the end of growing season and the begin of harvest, September indeed heralds a shifting of the tides and weather changes. It always seems like a great time to start new projects, and of course it’s fashion week in New York, Milan and Paris – which means it’s time to bring out some cozy wear and bunker down for winter.

Sometimes, this time feels more like a new year than January 1st and September has me thinking about all these things every time it comes around. With the ending of harvest season in sight, I am already looking to fill my free time with many new projects – including a series of art dolls, an art event in the works (to be announced soon) – and I will even soon be starting some newly online classes and workshops. So let’s hear it for new beginnings!!! Stay tuned because I will be sharing the progress of some new work and announcing the event I hinted at in the next few weeks… And now off to enjoy the last days of summer on Hanks Beach on beautiful Cortes Island!

Art Show Announcement

Cortes Island friends, neighbours and visitors, please mark your calendar!!! I am very excited to invite you to my solo art show, “The Other-Side presents That Wall” which will run at The Old School House Gallery from July 8th to July 17th.

I hope to see many of you at the opening reception on July 8th from 6pm to 9pm. We will be graced with the presence of a special guest from the band behind the sound track, the inimitable Del Riveria on his accordion. Beverages and snacks will also be served. Two days before the end of the show, the artist (me!) will offer an artist talk on July 15th @ 7pm. The art installation consists of art dolls, my interpretation of graffiti art and a sound track composed and performed by The Other-Side. CDs of the soundtrack and each individual installation will be for sale. I look forward to sharing this experience with all of you!

Sincerely, Laura xoxo

I am preparing for my first solo art show. The blackout!!! collection has been chosen and will be shown for 3 weeks on Cortes Island, B.C., between Aug. 23rd and Sept 10th, at the Co-op Organic Cafe. Here is a last peek before the show. I’ll be sharing more info soon, but I’m so excited and honoured that I just have to share. As we step into another long weekend, celebrating British Columbia day, I thank all my friends and followers for all the support in continuing my creativity as a visual artist. I share with you: Blackout!!! #5.
