Sense That Sin

My new multidisciplinary art installation called “Sense That Sin” will be presented for the first time in Powell River, BC , at the Expose Yourself Art Exhibition from March 16th to 19th – with a special live performance on Friday  March 17th. My contribution to the art show includes 3 art dolls, one live doll and an accordion player. My inspiration for this exotic/erotic experience was flowers and their surroundings with all the lushness this implies for our senses when we allow ourselves to fully experience them.

But who – might you ask – will be performing at the special live show? Well, without any further ado, let me introduce you to Namchi Bazar and Del Riveria !!!

Namchi Bazar impressive career started with her early training with the Royal Vancouver Ballet Academy, which was followed by years spent with the Arts Umbrella Youth Dance Company. She would then move on to more exciting training at the West Coast Ballet Institute with special tutelage under Crystal Pite. Namchi completed her BFA in Contemporary Dance from Concordia University and pursued a career as an independent choreographer and performer, pioneering some experimental venues and performances, including Piss in the Pool with Sasha Kleinplatz, Andrew Tay and Dana Michel.  Namchi dabbled in the wonders of the circus arts with special performances for Cirque du Soleil. She also spent years studying different types of Classical Indian dances and folk styles from Rajasthan. Namchi developed her love for collaborative projects and continued to forge new pathways in Indo-fusion dance aesthetics, working with diverse artists and mediums including Beats Without Borders, Adam Shaikh, and Tarun Nayar. Namchi has most recently worked with Meinsje Vlaming and the Dream Caravan from Cortes Island, BC who blend elements of flamenco, gypsy and belly dances with theatrical circus arts.

Del Riveria is a man of few words but of serious talent! He has collaborated with Laura Balducci on her last few art installations, The Stuffy Collection and The Other-Side presents That Wall, gracing them with his accordion improv. Del also plays with The Slim Milky Band from Powell River and The Improv Choir… Singer, songwriter, composer, accordionist/pianist, actor, impresario, busker, improviser and (from an early age) parade instigator, Del Riveria is a performance artist extraordinaire!

Senses That Sin

I have a new art installation called Senses That Sin which will debut on at  the Expose Yourself Art Exhibition in Powell River from March 17th to 19th. Senses That Sin consists of 3 art dolls and one live doll! Indeed, I am taking my art to the next level with the inclusion of a live performance on March 17th by Namchi Bazar and Del Rivera. As you can well imagine, I can’t share all the details at this time but I can say that it’s been an exciting learning curve to create the many stages and details involved in this project. For now, I offer you a sneak peek at the plate forms that each Doll will stand on!!! Nudge nudge, wink wink… I really look forward to seeing the completed vision and sharing it with you at the art exhibition!

Expose Yourself – Events!

Events!

We have events! Events are happening!

Here are two of the events 🙂

LGBTQ Town Hall! Exploring Issues Facing LGBTQ in Rural Areas (like Powell River — this will have a specific focus on what’s working and what’s needed here!)

16195557_1349266411797742_7342339204634364307_n

We are proud to welcome Robert Beringer, BGS, MA., experienced facilitator and researcher, to Powell River to host this LGBTQ community town hall event focusing specifically on issues facing LGBTQ communities living in rural or isolated areas such as ours. All ages are welcome to attend and the town hall format will provide a forum to share thoughts about community services (social and otherwise), health, wellness, aging, intergenerational connectedness, and diversity.

->>> Members of neighbouring communities are also encouraged to join <<<-

This is a free community event made possible by The Old Courthouse Inn and the Powell River Pride Society. We will be collecting donations from those who are able. No pressure. 100% of the donations will be going to Robert’s travel and accommodations.

During the evening Robert will present findings from his research into issues facing LGBTQ communities in rural areas in Canada and engage discussion regarding the specific needs and concerns within Powell River.

Click here to RSVP! (RSVP is not at all mandatory but appreciated.)

Goals + Adventures for 2017

Everyone is talking about resolutions this time of year. Personally, I like to take the month of January to put some goals into action and prepare for new adventures on my horizon instead. I find that taking this kind of action in my life doesn’t bring on as much stress as the word “resolution” does – because we all know that life brings enough of that all on its own.

So here are some of my goals: Take more time to enjoy life to the fullest; continue to work towards being the strongest, healthiest and most energetic person I can be (which includes getting a handle on my smoking habit, and No! I did not say quit!); learn some new art techniques, and put as many smiles on as many faces around the world as possible through my art and this blog.

Now for the adventures part: I have a new art installation in the making called “Sense that Sin”; I have started a new venture called BalducciArt which is my newfound passion of creating in 3D through textile art – you will find a new page on my website just for them and will hear more about them in one of my posts… And as many of you might know, I have taken a position of co-producer with Expose Yourself (an art exhibition in Powell River) which is starting to shape up as a promising adventure you won’t want to miss! Stay tuned to get all the details as I will be sharing them as they unfold (or check out our website to learn how to SUBmit at https://eyexhibition.com).

On a more personal level, I am planning adventures at sea by spending as much time as possible exploring the water via boat and paddle board; I am determined to attend as many workshops as possible to keep exploring the infinite possibilities of art, and to take a trip somewhere with my sweetheart (in a plane) to deepen our common love of taking adventures together… and while I am at it, I will take this opportunity to share my philosophy for 2017: “It takes approximately 165 muscles to frown and only 6 to smile.” I know how I will choose to share my energy; do you?

Expose Yourself 2017 – Process Driven

We have been receiving some super submission updates on projects in process.

We don’t want to spoil the surprise but, let’s just say that the 2017 exhibition will feature some downright libidinous (look it up, hot-stuff!) installations and community art projects. Remember the monkeys? The teddies? The giant felted penis mounted on a roving rumba? The barbies?!

Yeah… We love that stuff.

Don’t forget, the submission deadline is midnight on Saturday, January 21st. If your piece is still “in process” at that time, that’s alright, just be sure to send us your best representation of the piece (pictures!) and any explanation you think we will need in order to make sure we gotchew. And, if you be afraid of the request for a CV (resume) DON’T BE. This can be a full, professional artists CV, an overview of what you’ve been up to or a drawing of a artist rendering of your butt. It ain’t a contest! It’s research.

In the meantime, if you’ve got detail images of your installation (a pic of a detail or two on your project — something that won’t blow the surprise), your costume or your non-sanctioned Expose Yourself art-bomb, send ’em in to eyexhibition@gmail.com
