BalducciArt = Wearable Art

I have recently been creating with a new medium and I am very excited to share this with you. Yes, it’s official! I have now added Textile Art to my wide range of mediums to work with; using wool, recycled cloth, naturally dyed materials, vintage buttons, beads  and embroidery thread. Which brings me to the creation of a new page to my website for you to check out. On it, you will be able to see my new handmade designs available for purchase – you can either send me a palette of colour for inspiration to have your own Bandana commissioned or choose from the ones I have already created. Prices will vary due to cost of materials. I am having so much fun “painting” with this new medium and I look forward to sharing my new wearable BalducciArt with you. Please feel free to email me for more details laurabalducciart@gmail.com

P.S. Etsy store well be opening soon….

Installation 8: Loretta

Loretta  is the 8th installation of 13 from The Other-Side presents That Wall art project. Each installation is unique in its own way and features art on both sides, as well as their own song on a soundtrack that was created to make them all come alive.

Loretta is independent and fights for freedom – limitations are not her friends! She is spontaneous, versatile, and appreciates a good debate. She does, at times, end up paying a certain price for her opinions, but she likes a victory too much to change her ways, whatever the costs!!! Loretta is handmade out of polymer clay and recycled clothing from my closet. Including a t-shirt a friend who brought it back from New York back in the mid 1990’s, her mohawk is made from wool, and her shorts are crafted from the bottom hem of a pair of pants. The other side of her piece is my interpretation of graffiti art which I created using spray paint, acrylic paint and collage.

Each installation is for sale and comes with its soundtrack. In order to experience the full effect of the installation, please check out the music video below which will take you on a journey through the full show. You can also read the stellar review the show garnered for a deeper insight into the experience!!! Feel free to share and please, contact me for more info such as availability and pricing.

Installation 7: Allegra

Allegra is the 7th installation of 13 from The Other-Side presents That Wall art project. Each installation is unique in its own way and features art on both sides, as well as their own song on a soundtrack that was created to make them all come alive.

Allegra  is the cheerful one; the one who makes visions come alive! She has been around for decades sharing her thoughts with many, giving them the power to live their dreams in the world they desire. Allegra is handcrafted out of polymer clay, her dress is naturally dyed light pink and lined on the outside with a recycled shawl for accent, her hair is made out of Alpaca wool and her boots are finished with nail polish to give them sparkle. The other side of her piece is my interpretation of graffiti art which I created using spray paint, acrylic paint and collage.

Each installation is for sale and comes with its soundtrack. In order to experience the full effect of the installation, please check out the music video below which will take you on a journey through the full show. Meet Imelda

Imelda is a new art doll I started to create this past spring while attending an art doll workshop with Kate Church. Imelda is part of my new series of dolls, which will be called the Rascals. She is seated on a found deer skull and made by hand out of polymer clay, naturally dyed wool (for her hair), repurposed material from drapes (for her cape), and a vintage button (among other things!). Imelda is a warrior, who is fighting the universal battle for all the wild things in the world. With each doll in this new series, I will be exploring the idea of what rascals are about and what they get into and what they discover in this big world we all share.

New Art Dolls Together

I had the best time ever at my art doll workshop with Kate Church – learning new techniques, and spending many hours in creating more. What joy! Today, I would like to share my new art dolls together, which I hand-crafted with polymer clay, collected textiles, naturally dyed wool -just to name a few mediums used. I look forward to using my new skills over the next few months and continue to share my creations!!!

Off to Play…

The time has come to go off island and play for a week. Learning new techniques at an exciting workshop facilitated by Kate Church at The Blue Moon Winery. That’s right! I am off to play with these 2 pretties – my first ever stuffed animals and art dolls. I look forward to sharing the progress of the workshop as well as some pics from various sites around the Comox Valley.
