Installation 11: Cynthia

Cynthia  is the 11th installation of 13 from The Other-Side presents That Wall art project. Each installation is unique in its own way and features art on both sides, as well as their own song on a soundtrack that was created to make them all come alive.

Cynthia is a very friendly gal; she is the type of person who will help you read your map and find your way if you are lost. She is cheerful even when things are tough and a real goddess when life shines bright. Cynthia is handmade from polymer clay and is one of a kind. The book she is reading is crafted from a map of the West Coast of British Columbia. Her outfit is made out of an old vintage jacket I found at a garage sale (from the 60’s, I believe!) The other side of her piece is my interpretation of graffiti art which I created using spray paint, acrylic paint and collage.

Each installation is for sale and comes with its own soundtrack. In order to experience the full effect of the installation, please check out the music video below which will take you on a journey through the full show. You can also read the stellar review the show garnered for a deeper insight into the experience!!! Feel free to share and please, contact me for more info such as availability and pricing.

Installation 4: Rhonda

Rhonda is the 4th installation of 13 from The Other-Side presents That Wall art project. Each installation is unique in its own way and features art on both sides, as well as their own song on a soundtrack that was created to make them all come alive.

Rhonda is always well-intentioned, whether it is offering her shoulder to lean on or bringing out a smile on a gloomy day, she will be happy to help; but don’t talk behind her back or she will spear you in the blink of an eye! Rhonda is crafted from a one-of-a-kind polymer clay. Her dreadlocks are made of wool that was naturally dyed with Lilac, her jacket was constructed from repurposed fur that  was gifted to me by a friend and the mini muff for her hands is made from leather twine. Her pants are made from a print I sourced from my personal collection of fashion magazines. The other side of her piece is my interpretation of graffiti art which I created using spray paint, acrylic paint and collage.

Each installation is for sale and comes with its soundtrack. In order to experience the full effect of the installation, please check out the music video below which will take you on a journey through the full show. This Happened @ The Opening

Last Friday was an energy-filled evening on the opening night of “The Other-Side presents That Wall”at The Old School House Gallery on Cortes Island. Del Riveria floated around the room and outside while playing his vintage 1962 accordion, as more and more guests kept on walking through the door. It was quite overwhelming to say the least, and very delightful to watch people engaging with my art installation and jiving to the sound track. The enthusiastic comments and warm smiles made me feel like I accomplished my goal of inspiring  viewers to think, to dream, and to feel something new or different, even if for just one evening. A friend even came bearing a gift that would only happen on Cortes Island – 3 new laying hens! (I bet you wondered why I chose that picture! And if you look closely, you will see Del and his accordion on the porch too.) Much to my surprise, the hens were well appreciated by everyone and have now made their forever home on my farm. What a great evening! Xoxo

The show also received a rave review by Richard Trueman 🙂 http://www.cortesisland.com/tideline/show8662a/Review_The_Other_Side_-_THAT_WALL

The Old School House Gallery

I am so happy to announce that this Friday, my art installation “The Other-Side presents That Wall” opens at The Old School House Gallery. I am really excited for my solo art show to be presented in the art gallery on the island I live on!

There is so much history at this location – from being the first school on Cortes Island to showcasing the works of many accomplished local artists at what eventually would become the only gallery on the island. The Old School House Gallery is run by volunteer members and on a donation basis. It is open for only 8 weeks a year, so it is a true honor to have the opportunity to share my solo art show this year. The location has intrigued me ever since I moved to Cortes Island – their art shows are always very unique, filled with lots of talent and one of the highlights of my Cortes summer activities.

A sneak peek!!!

The Other-Side presents That Wall

My new art installation involves many mixed media. One element is my interpretation of Graffiti Art inspired by the West side of the Berlin Wall. Here is a Sneak Peek at one of the 13 panels I created on recycled dresser drawers. I used spray paint, collage, acrylic and found items. Look out for info on two upcoming solo art shows this summer.
