Elenor from The Stuffy Collection has found her forever home in Vernon B.C. I believe she is going to be treasured for many years to come and this warms my heart. Her new human is named Frankie – a young lady who is having fun embarking on her newfound love of art collecting.
The Stuffy Collection was an art challenge I gave myself in 2014, which consisted of taking a photo, creating a portrait inspired by it, and write a short story for each of my stuffed animal in my collection. Here is Elenor’s story from the book I made from this project, My Stuffies’ Secret Life.
Elenor is always looking deeper than the surface, reading between the lines and connecting with the space between things…”There is always more than meets the eye” in Elenor’s world!
Mr. ILoveH2O has found his forever home in Victoria, BC! Now this makes me so happy because Mr.ILoveH2O was the very first stuffy I documented for the collection back in 2014. By now, the Stuffy Collection has gotten around and travelled around the Salish Sea and there are 27 left for adoption out of this unique yearlong 52-week art challenge I set out for myself. And quite a challenge it was! Spending a year doing one photo shoot with a different stuffy each week for inspiration and then creating one portrait a week and writing a short story for each of them was as much fun as it was a lot of work! But very rewarding nonetheless and it continues to be so. Mr. ILoveH2O has a great message to share considering the situation going on in the world and especially in the US and in Canada. Here is his story:
Mr.ILoveH2O knows that water is the most important thing on earth.”Without it nothing would survive!” he is fond of saying. And then he invariably adds: “It takes 460 gallons of water to grow on pound of chicken and 31 gallons of water for a single pound of potatoes!” Mr.ILoveH2O would like you to think about water every day.
Thank You for your ongoing support it means a lot to me and encourages me to keep creating. xoxo Laura
Chinetta – from the Stuffy Collection – has found her forever home on Cortes Island just in time for the festive time of year! Let me share a little insight on Chinetta taken from my book, My Stuffies’ Secret Life where you can find the full collection of 52 portraits, photos, and stories.
Chinetta has a personality that makes every room light up. When she speaks it’s like a pop of entertainment that sparkles with fun and laughter. Chinetta gets invited to all the parties!
The Stuffy Collection is an art project consisting of a challenge I gave myself in 2014 of creating on art piece for 52 consecutive weeks. I chose to base it around my stuffed animal collection by first taking a photo for inspiration and then create a painted portrait as well as a story. The installation has toured the The Salish Sea and can be viewed as we speak at The Co-op Café on Cortes Island alongside the art book I created from the project My Stuffies’ Secret Life. I decided to share Week 45 with you, as it seems like a good time to share Pearl’s story.
Pearl likes to stay close to her roots, so she does not travel far often. She does have an aunt who lives on an oyster farm much more to the south of where Pearl lives. Her aunt visits every year and each time, brings her many of her namesakes. Pearl loves to spend time with her aunt and marvel at what oysters can do with a speck of dirt! “It’s always possible to turn challenges into opportunities,”thinks Pearl.
This is a photo of Pinky. Usually, this would be her favourite season because she can’t believe all the beautiful colours fall brings us. It’s such a cozy time of year too. the brisk autumn air, the crisp sun… and sipping on hot chocolate while sitting on her comfy couch in front of a crackling fire are some of Pinky’s favourite things.
BUT!!! Pinky’s photo has gone AWOL and we are worried about her. If you see it anywhere, or have any information as to its whereabouts, please bring it back to the Co-op Café no questions asked or contact firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange her return.
The rest of the collection misses her!
The Stuffy Collection is now showing at The Co-op Cafe on Cortes Island from Oct 17th to Nov 27th. I would like to invite my island neighbours and visitors to check out the show as well as enjoy a warm beverage and tasty treat from the bakery.
About the project: in 2014, I decided to give myself an art challenge – create art inspired by my stuffed animal collection for 52 consecutive weeks. I set the goal of doing a photo shoot with one of my stuffy each week and then paint a portrait using the photo as inspiration. I then wrote a little story about their journey in order to uncover their dreams and aspirations; this in turn became my first art book, “My Stuffies’ Secret Life.” Today I share Elenor with you. To see more about The Stuffy Collection, I invite you to come by the cafe or check out the pages on my website.

The time has come to go off island and play for a week. Learning new techniques at an exciting workshop facilitated by Kate Church at The Blue Moon Winery. That’s right! I am off to play with these 2 pretties – my first ever stuffed animals and art dolls. I look forward to sharing the progress of the workshop as well as some pics from various sites around the Comox Valley.
